WonderFest is the SF/Fantasy modeller's annual convention/competition, held in the Louisville, Kentucky Crowne Plaza Hotel. Hundreds of modelers bring their best models for the competition, and buy more. My favorie part is the "Iron Modeler" competition. We separate into teams and kitbash something out of the parts we all bring with us and share. This is a pretty good explanation. At the end of the evening each team presents their construction with a story explaining it. Our team's was:
A Generation Ship lost its hyperdrive mid-journey. It dropped into Real Space in the debris field of an ancient battle. While repairing their ship by salvaging the derelict hulks surrounding them many of the younger generations, weary of the enforced sacrifice of beauty over desperate functionality, began devoting attention to appearance, painting portions of their ship as they repaired it.
Thus, the ship once known as the "Godot" became known as the "Gaudy To Go."

Kitbashing - Making spaceships out of not-spaceship parts. The port side of the engine section is the shuttle Narcissus From Aliens. The long cylinder of the main body is a printer's tonor container. The purple nose is a makeup powder container. Above it is a Porche model kit. Abaft, the yellow oval is a computer mouse. An inch or so infront of that is two plastic football helmets cake decorations. On the starboard side, main shape abaft of the purple part is a Space Shuttle toy nose with a model ship stand hanging on it. And so on and so forth. The engines are my ubiquitous No7 Lab engine nozzle.
